Client asks if we make a screen mesh material protective cover for outdoor air conditioner condensers... No and here is why...

Never restrict airflow on air intake units like window / through the wall or whole house central air conditioning outdoor condensers. Adding a screen mesh sufficient to block cottonwood, grass clippings etc. would severely reduce the manufacturers’ equipment air intake requirements.

Applying a screen mesh over the outdoor air conditioner condenser air intake cooling coils and top warm air exhaust fan could over heat the outdoor condensing unit and burn out older units and or with newer units cause a high heat disconnect and turn off your unit prior to burn out which would require a heating and cooling service company to correct.

At a minimum, any restriction to the manufacturers design requirements for proper air flow across the outdoor condenser cooling coils and top warm air exhaust fan causes the unit to run harder and longer in an attempt to properly cool the refrigerant within the condenser cooling coils.

October is Scary!  

I'm receiving telephone calls daily from consumers and small businesses asking me to clarify or help them sort out some of the information they are receiving from other companies on the Internet selling air conditioner covers.

Outdoor Air Conditioner Condensers Should be On the Level

Carol and I were visiting her mothers house in Ohio this last summer and when I went outside to the back yard I noticed the outdoor air conditioner condenser was sitting on a concrete pad and the pad and condenser were leaning back towards the house at a very noticeable angle.

I walked closer to the outdoor condenser unit and noticed two problems. One, the condenser was leaning backward whereas the oil within the compressor within the outdoor condenser was not able to flow properly within the compressor which is not the best thing for safe, proper long lasting operation of the compressor which is the heart of the outdoor condenser.

Secondly I noticed the reason the compressor was leaning backwards towards the house because water from snow melt and rain water over time was washing away the dirt from the concrete foundation and basement window area. Earth butting up to the foundation of a house should be built up and the grading should allow for water shed away from the foundation of the house and into the flower bed and or yard.

I went inside the house and down to the basement to where the area of the condenser placement was outside and sure enough I noticed water marks around the basement window and on the inside of the foundation of the house.

Proper grading of the earth around the house to allow for water-runoff away from the home’s foundation is important and making sure your outdoor air conditioner pad the condenser sits on is sitting level is very important for proper operation of your compressor within the outdoor air conditioner condenser.

I forgot that the side panels are custom made. I purchased the side panels and the window air conditioner inside cover for the air conditioner that is in my 480 square-foot garage.  This garage was done over to be used as a workshop.  It is completely insulated and the walls are finished.  The overhead door is rated at 17.5 r insulating factor.  We didn't want to take the air conditioner off during the winter because it is bolted into the window frame.  Last winter it was very cold in the garage.  The side panels and cover didn't arrive a moment too soon - we installed them yesterday.  We can already tell the difference - in spite of the freezing cold outside, it is relatively comfortable in the garage. Thanks for making such a fine product.
